The Alzheimer Scotland Student Research Programme is excited to announce the first of two recipients of funding for 2024. This particular award, which will also be known as the Ella MacGregor Award, goes to the student Katie Robertson, supervised by a team led by Prof Simon Cox at the University of Edinburgh.

The title of the project is “Neurostructural underpinnings of traumatic brain injury (TBI) dementia association”. The project relates to how and why traumatic brain injuries contribute to an increased risk of dementia. The project aims to analyse the brain scans (using data from UK Biobank) of people who have a history of head injury compared to those who haven’t, identifying any differences in specific brain areas and neural connections. You can find out more about Katie and the project she will be working on in the below video.

We are sure you agree that this is a novel and exciting project and SDRC and Alzheimer Scotland look forward to working with Katie and the team!

The Alzheimer Student Research Programme support the next generation of dementia and brain health research by funding studentships at institutions across Scotland. Find out more here
