Alzheimer Scotland Student Research Programme

Alzheimer Scotland is pleased to announce the fourth round of the Student Research Programme.

The Alzheimer Scotland Student Research Programme will fund up to two Masters-level research projects.

We invite applications on the topic of ‘women and dementia’, which can apply both to those living with dementia and those that are carers.

Applications can cover any of the research themes (diagnosis, fundamental science, living with dementia, prevention, informatics and technology).

If you have any questions about eligibility please contact us on the email address within the Guidance Notes.

Project funding can include tuition fees, consumables and a stipend for each student up to £25,500. The stipend must align to the UKRI 2025/26 stipend rate of £20,780.  We aim to support people to pursue a research career and develop ideas that otherwise may be difficult. The projects can be a starting point to more research, or form part of a piece of a bigger research puzzle.

In addition, the Alzheimer Scotland Student Research Programme will offer more than a financial contribution.  Successful applicants will receive numerous opportunities to develop their research communication skills as well as other career development and networking opportunities.

How to apply

Applications for the Alzheimer Scotland Student Research Programme are open from 15 September – 13 October 2025. You can find the application form and guidance notes at the top of this page. The first round of applications will involve producing a lay summary, after which successful applications will be invited to submit a more detailed funding proposal.

We invite applications from any research institution within Scotland. Note: We cannot accept applications from individual prospective students, applications must be led by a member of the project’s supervisory team.

The closing date for applications in 13 October 2025.
